If you’ve been playing Fortnite for a while, you’ve likely encountered the frustrating issue of getting stuck on the loading screen. This issue typically occurs after an update, especially during new seasons when many players are trying to log in simultaneously, causing server response issues. In this article, we’ll explore six easy ways to help you fix the Fortnite loading screen stuck issue.

How To Fix Fortnite Loading Screen Stuck

There are several ways to fix the Fortnite loading screen issue and to keep things simple, we’ll start with the solutions that won’t have you scratching your head.

1. Check For Server Issues

Start by checking the Fortnite servers to see if any outages or maintenance updates could be causing the issue. You can get updates on server-related issues by visiting the official Epic Games server status website. Here, you will find the status for various services like Game Services, Matchmaking, Login, and more. Each of these should have a greenOperational” status next to them.

Check game servers

If not, it means the servers are down, and there’s not much you can do apart from waiting for Epic Games to fix their servers. 9 out of 10 times, when Fortnite is stuck on the loading screen, it’s due to a server backend issue, and the best thing you can do is wait patiently for Epic Games to resolve it.

2. Restart Fortnite

If the servers seem to be working fine, the issue might be on your end. In that case, the first thing to do is restart Fortnite. It might sound simple, but the classic “turn it off and back on again” method is often effective and can resolve many issues. Since an overloaded server is a common cause, restarting your game can help log you into a less crowded server with more available space.

3. Run the Game as an Administrator

If the issue persists even after restarting Fortnite, the next step is to run the game as an administrator. Running the game with administrative privileges can help bypass certain restrictions or permission conflicts, ensuring that Fortnite has full access to all the necessary files and resources it needs to function properly. Here’s how you can run the game as an administrator:

  1. From the desktop screen, right-click on the Epic Games launcher shortcut and select Properties.
    Select Properties
  2. Once the pop-up menu opens, head to the Compatibility tab. Under the Settings section, check the box next to the “Run this program as an administrator” option.
    Check this box
  3. Finally, click on the OK button and press Apply to confirm your changes.
    Confirm your changes

Now launch your game through the Epic Games launcher as you normally would, and this time the game will run with administrative privileges, potentially fixing the loading screen issue.

4. Update Your Graphics Card Drivers

If your game is still stuck on the loading screen, the next possible fix is updating your graphics card drivers. Despite sounding complicated, updating your graphics card isn’t difficult and can resolve issues caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.

To update your graphics card driver, simply open your card’s respective software. For NVIDIA GPUs, use the GeForce Experience software, and for AMD GPUs, use the AMD Software. Here’s how to update your graphics card driver on both AMD and NVIDIA:

↪ Updating NVIDIA Graphics Card

Before you begin updating Nvidia graphics card drivers, ensure that you have the dedicated GeForce Experience software installed on your computer. If you don’t have it, visit the GeForce Experience section on the Nvidia website, click the download button, follow the prompts, and install it. Once the software is installed, you can move to updating your graphics card by following these steps:

  1. Open up the GeForce experience software and head to the Drivers tab in the top right corner.
    Head to the drivers tab
  2. From here, click on the “Check For Updates” button. If there’s a pending update available, you can skip this step.
    Check for updates
  3. Once you have an update ready to be installed, click the “Download” button next to it.
    Click on Download
  4. Once it’s downloaded, you’ll have to choose your installation type. The most preferred option is “Express Installation.” However, if you want to customize and possibly remove certain, you can select “Custom installation.”Once you have selected your preferred installation option, click the “Install” button.
    Stick with Express Installation
  5. The driver will start updating which shouldn’t take more than a few minutes
    Wait for a few minutes
  6. Once the driver is done updating, restart your PC.

↪ Updating AMD Graphics Card

Similar to Nvidia, AMD also has its driver management software called “AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition.” The software will come preinstalled when you download your graphics card drivers for the first time. Here’s how to update your graphic card drivers using the AMD software:

  1. Open up the AMD software and head to the Driver & Software section on the left side. Here, click on the “Check for Updates” button. If you already have an update lined up, this option will not be available.
    Check for updates
  2. Next, press the Download button to begin updating your drivers.
    Press Download
  3. When you hit the Download button, a progress bar should appear along with the remaining time it will take.
    Wait it out
  4. Once that’s finished, the Download button will now change to an Install button. Simply click on it to install updated drivers.
    Click Download
  5. An installation menu should open up. Ignore things like Additional Options and Factory reset as that will only complicate things for you. Simply press Install.
    Press Install
  6. The update should start installing which will take only a couple of minutes. During the process, your screen might flicker or go black a few times, which is completely normal and there’s nothing to worry about.
Wait for the drivers to update
  7. Once your drivers have been installed, it’s recommended to restart your PC so that everything can come into effect properly.

Once the process is complete, launch Fortnite and see if the issue persists. Updating the drivers can resolve the loading screen issue caused by potentially corrupted or outdated drivers.

5. Switch From DirectX 12 to DirectX 11

If updating your graphics card drivers didn’t resolve the issue, another fix to try is switching from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11. Switching to DirectX 11 can sometimes resolve issues related to performance and stability, especially if your system is encountering compatibility issues with DirectX 12. Here’s how you can switch from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11 in Fortnite:

  1. Launch the Epic Games launcher and click on your Account name in the top left corner.
    Click on your Account name
  2. From here, click on the Settings option.
    Head to Settings
  3. In the Settings menu, scroll down until you see the Fortnite tab. Expand it and check the box next to “Additional Command Line Arguments“.
Expand Fortnite and check this box
  4. Here, enter “d3d11” and you should be good to go.
    Enter d3d11

If you have an older graphics card, using DirectX 12 may not be beneficial, so it’s best to remove it from the game files entirely to ensure it’s not being used. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Launch the Epic Games Launcher and head to the Library tab.
    Head to your Library
  2. From the Library panel, click on the three vertical dots next to Fortnite. This should open a pop-up menu. Here, select Options.
    Select Options
  3. Next, uncheck the box next to the “DirectX 12 Shaders” option. When you are done, click on the Apply button to confirm changes.
    Uncheck this box

6. Reinstall Fortnite

If none of the previous steps fixed the issue, your last resort is to reinstall Fortnite to eliminate any corrupted game files. While reinstalling the game can be a hassle, it’s worth trying as it will install a fresh version on your PC, free from bugs and errors.

To uninstall Fortnite, open your Library in the Epic Games Launcher. Click on the three vertical dots next to Fortnite, and then select the “Uninstall” option. Epic Games will provide a confirmation prompt; click “Uninstall” to completely remove the game from your system.

Uninstall Fortnite

Once you have completed that, reinstall Fortnite on your PC. This should allow you to go through the loading screen smoothly and without any errors.

What to Do If You’re Playing on a Console or Mobile Device

While some of the steps discussed above, like checking server status or restarting Fortnite, are universal and work on consoles and mobile devices, the rest are primarily focused on PC players. However, the loading screen issue can also occur on consoles and mobile devices. To help with that, here are a few solutions specifically for those platforms.

1. Make Sure Your Device isn’t Overheating

One of the most common issues with consoles and mobile devices is overheating, especially when they are under heavy load. Overheating can lead to your device slowing down, resulting in poor performance, especially when gaming. This can cause Fortnite to get stuck on the loading screen.

Your device is burning!

To prevent this, ensure your device hasn’t been running for an extended period, take breaks, and check for signs of overheating, such as excessive heat or a hot-to-the-touch surface.

2. Ensure You Have Enough Storage Space

With newer and larger content updates coming to Fortnite, it’s no surprise that the game will take up a significant amount of storage space. If your device is nearly full, it can prevent Fortnite from properly uploading and downloading necessary files. To ensure optimal performance, ensure your device’s storage is not full and there’s enough space for essential files and updates.

Regularly update your software!

3. Check For Software Updates

Software updates can help you get rid of bugs and errors that can cause random issues and glitches on your console and mobile devices. Regularly updating your console and mobile software ensures they receive the latest improvements and fixes, which can resolve performance issues, including the Fortnite loading screen getting stuck.

Wrapping Up

The Fortnite loading screen issue can be a mood wrecker since it can pretty much stop you from playing the game. Before trying out anything complex make sure to reboot your device once. No matter what device you are on rebooting it can be a lifesaver and can resolve your loading screen issue. Apart from that make sure to try out every method to ensure no fix is left behind.

From troubleshooting networks to managing servers to providing user support, and optimizing system performance, System administrators have a lot to work with. And what’s better than automating a few of these tasks? That’s where PowerShell scripts enter. Written with just a text editor, PowerShell scripts allow you to automate repetitive tasks and handle administrative queries efficiently.

However, a crucial step in your PowerShell journey is learning how to run these scripts. In this article, we’ll help you get started by explaining everything you need to know for running your first PowerShell script. Along the way, we will also look at how you can create your own PowerShell scripts and a few examples to spark your creativity. So, let’s jump right in!

Set your Execution Policy

Step 1: Setting the Execution Policy

When trying to execute PowerShell scripts for the first time, you are likely to encounter an error stating, “cannot be loaded because running scripts is disabled on this system“. This error occurs because your execution policy is set to Restricted, RemoteSigned, or AllSigned. So the first step to running PowerShell scripts is understanding the purpose of the execution policy and configuring it.

↪ The Execution Policy and its Levels

The PowerShell script Execution Policy is a system-wide configuration setting that controls whether PowerShell scripts can be executed, based on their source and digital signature. By default, this policy is set to “Restricted,” blocking all script execution. This helps minimize risks associated with running scripts downloaded from the internet, ensuring controlled access and security on your system.

There are four levels for the Execution Policy:

  1. Restricted: This policy is set by default on all Windows client computers and restricts the execution of all scripts.
  2. Unrestricted: For any non-Windows devices this policy is set by default and allows you to run any script. However, it still returns a warning message before executing a script that’s downloaded from the Internet.
  3. Remote Signed: This policy allows you to either run any script that is digitally signed or written on your local computer even if it doesn’t have a signature.
  4. All Signed: Whether the script is downloaded from the Internet or written locally, all of them must be signed digitally by a trusted publisher to be executed under this policy.
In the context of PowerShell scripts, digital signatures are cryptographic markers that validate the authenticity and integrity of scripts. They confirm the identity of the script’s author, ensure the script hasn’t been altered since signing, and provide assurance against unauthorized modifications. This allows users to verify the origin and trustworthiness of PowerShell scripts before execution.

↪ Changing the PowerShell Execution Policy

Now that we know the significance of the execution policy and the different ways it works in, let’s look at adjusting these restrictions. Here’s a detailed rundown on how to change the PowerShell Execution Policy:

  1. Open up Windows PowerShell using the Windows Search bar and make sure to run it as an Administrator.
    Run Windows Powershell
  2. Next, run the “Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned” PowerShell command to change your system’s execution policy. We will be changing the execution policy to Remote Signed as it offers a balanced level of security. However, you can choose any one of the four based on your requirements.
    Change Execution Policy
  3. As and when you enter that, you should see an output asking you to confirm the action. Here, Enter Y for Yes and press the Enter key to confirm the policy change.
    Press Y For yes
  4. To verify your current execution policy, you can use the “Get-ExecutionPolicy” command.
    Setting Execution Policy

Step 2: Run PowerShell Scripts

Now that you have configured the execution policy, you are all ready to run your first PowerShell script. There are several options available for running PowerShell scripts, and you should choose the method that seems most straightforward for you. With that said, let’s take a closer look at the four different methods to run a PowerShell script.

1. Run With PowerShell

The fastest and easiest method to run PowerShell scripts is by right-clicking on them and selecting the “Run with PowerShell” option. However, with this method, the script runs and closes immediately, which means you won’t be able to check for errors or review the output thoroughly. This approach is best suited when you have a script designed for a specific action, such as cleaning temporary files.

2. Using Windows PowerShell

The most preferred method for running PowerShell scripts is by using the command line Windows PowerShell script itself. To run a PowerShell script using Windows PowerShell, follow these steps:

  1. Open Windows PowerShell as an administrator.
    Run Windows Powershell
  2. From here, Navigate to the folder where your script is located using the command — cd “c:\path” (make sure to add the path within the quotation marks). In our case, we have simply saved the script on our Desktop
    Navigate to the directory
  3. Next, enter the name of your script, ensuring you match the case exactly as it appears.
    Enter your script
  4. Finally, hit the Enter key on your keyboard and your script should be executed.
    Run your script

3. Using CMD

Similar to Windows PowerShell, CMD or Command Prompt is also a command-line interface available in Windows. If you prefer CMD more than Windows PowerShell, you can also use it to run your PowerShell scripts. Here’s how to run PowerShell scripts using CMD:

  1. To run scripts using the command prompt, start by opening the PowerShell executable and then passing the script path as a parameter to it. To do this, head to the Windows Search bar and open Command Prompt (CMD) as an administrator.
    Run CMD as admin
  2. Next, enter PowerShell.exe to launch the PowerShell environments within CMD where you can proceed to execute your scripts by providing their file paths as parameters.
    Enter PowerShell.exe
  3. From here, navigate to where your script is located using the command— cd “c:\path“.
    Enter your directory
  4. Now, enter the name of your script.
    Add your script
  5. Finally, press Enter, and the script will be executed within CMD.
Your script should run right away

4. Using PowerShell ISE

Windows PowerShell ISE (Integrated Scripting Environment) is an official scripting tool and development environment for PowerShell. It provides a graphical user interface (GUI) that simplifies the creation, debugging, and execution of PowerShell scripts. If you write your scripts or edit others, you’ll probably be using PowerShell ISE.

In that case, here’s a quick rundown to run PowerShell scripts using PowerShell ISE.

  1. Open up Windows PowerShell ISE using the Windows Search bar and make sure to run it as an administrator.
    Run Windows PowerShell ISE
  2. Next, click on File and select Open from the drop-down menu. This should open up the File Explorer.
    Now open your file
  3. Here, head to your script’s directory and press the Open button.
    Select your script
  4. To execute the script, simply click the green run button or press the F5 key on your keyboard. This will run the script within the integrated PowerShell terminal located at the bottom of the window.
    Run your script

Bonus: Creating PowerShell Scripts

Till now, if you have been running PowerShell scripts off of the Internet, it’s time to change that. Creating your PowerShell scripts allows you to create what you need. To create a PowerShell script, you can use two different methods; Notepad and Windows PowerShell ISE. Let’s have a closer look at both of these methods:

1. Using Notepad

  1. Open Notepad using the Windows Search bar.
    Open up Notepad
  2. From here, begin by writing your PowerShell commands directly into Notepad. For example, you can start with a simple command like Write-Host “Congratulations! Your first script executed successfully” to see how it works.
    Write your Command
  3. Next, to save your script click on the File option at the top left corner and select Save as from the menu.
    Choose Save as
  4. Finally, choose a directory for your script file and name it with a .ps1 extension, such as firstscript.ps1. Once you’ve done this, click on the “Save” button to store your script.
Make sure to add the .ps1 extension

2. Using PowerShell ISE

Another method to creating a PowerShell script is by using the PowerShell ISE editor. To create a PowerShell script using PowerShell ISE, follow these steps:

  1. Head to the Windows Search bar and open up Windows PowerShell ISE as an administrator.
    Select Windows PowerShell ISE
  2. Next, press the CTRL + N keys on your keyboard to create a new empty “.ps1” file.
    Press CTRL & N
  3. Now, enter the script you want to run. In our case, we’ll use the same example: “Write-Host ‘Congratulations! Your first script executed successfully”.
    Type your command
  4. To save the file, click on the File option and select Save as.
    Select save as
  5. Choose a directory and make sure to add the “.ps1extension. Finally, hit the Save button and you are good to go.
    Now Save your Script

With that, you have now created your first script. You can run this script using the various methods you’ve learned for executing PowerShell scripts. When creating PowerShell scripts, consider automating tasks you typically perform manually.

For instance, you could write a script to clear out the temp folder, freeing up space taken by unnecessary files.

Get-ChildItem C:\temp | Remove-Item

Similarly, you can check for a registry key on a machine using this PowerShell command.

Get-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Admin Arsenal\PDQ Deploy"

These are just a few examples of the many ways PowerShell scripts can help you save time and streamline your work.

Start Your PowerShell Journey

Now that you have learned everything about running PowerShell scripts, it’s time to put your knowledge to the test. Windows PowerShell is a powerful scripting language that introduces a new way to interact with and automate your operating system with just a few simple command lines. So, what are you waiting for? Start running your scripts right away!

Produced by Torn Banner Studios, Chivalry 2 is a multiplayer first-person hack-and-slash action video game that pits 64 players against each other in brutal medieval combat filled with epic sword fights and large-scale battles. Since the game recently became free on Epic Games Store during the Epic Mega Sale 2024, Chivalry 2 has seen a surge of new players, as well as returning veterans.

One of the most common questions newcomers have is whether Chivalry 2 supports crossplay. Crossplay can make or break your multiplayer experience. While it allows players on different platforms to join forces it can also introduce unfair gameplay elements. In this article, we will answer if Chivalry 2 supports crossplay and other supporting features like cross-progression and cross-save.

Is Chivarly 2 crossplay?

Is Chivalry 2 Crossplay?

Yes, Chivalry 2 features crossplay support across PC (if you download the game through the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This allows players from different platforms to join the same game and fight alongside or against each other.

When crossplay was first announced, it only included cross-platform matchmaking, meaning players could be matched against those on different platforms but couldn’t form cross-platform parties to play together. Fortunately, with the Raiding Party update, the studio introduced the ability to add players from any platform to your friend list using friend codes and team up with them.

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Valorant are two of the most popular games in the FPS genre each collectively boasting more than 2.5 million players. Given their similar style and concept, it’s common for players to transition between the two.

If you are thinking about switching from CSGO to Valorant, one thing that can help you smoothly transition is having a sensitivity you are familiar with. This makes it easier for you to carry over your muscle memory from one game to the other which allows you to adapt more fluidly. In this article, we will look at different ways to convert CSGO to Valorant sens to help you get that ace.

CSGO to Valorant sens

How To Convert CS:GO to Valorant Sens

When it comes to converting CSGO sensitivity to Valorant sensitivity, it’s important to remember that there isn’t an official method that can help you achieve the exact match. Even if such a method existed, the differences in movement and environments between the two games would still impact your experience and gameplay.

With that said, here are the two different methods that you can use to convert CSGO to Valorant sens:

1. Using a Third-Party Converter

The simplest way of converting your CSGO sensitivity to Valorant sensitivity is by using a third-party converter like the one from Aiming.Pro. This free tool handles all the calculations for you, providing you with the exact sensitivity you need. Here’s how to use the converter from Aiming.Pro:

  1. Open up the Aiming.Pro converter on your browser and change the “Convert from” tab to CSGO/CS2 and “Convert to” tab to Valorant.
    Select the two games
  2. Next, type in your CSGO sensitivity in the first tab.
    Enter your CSGO sens
  3. As soon as you enter your sensitivity, the tab right next to it will automatically convert it to CSGO sensitivity and give you the results.
    Your converted sensitivity

Apart from converting CSGO sens to Valorant or vice versa, it also features several other games such as Fortnite, COD Warzone, Apex Legends, and more

2. Manually Converting Sens

If you want to understand the math behind converting CSGO sensitivity to Valorant sensitivity, this method allows you to do so. The key point to remember is that a sensitivity of 3.18 in CSGO is equivalent to 1 in Valorant. To convert your sensitivity manually, simply divide your CSGO sensitivity by 3.18.

For example, if your CSGO sensitivity is 0.5, you would divide 0.5 by 3.18, resulting in 0.15. This method can also be used for converting Valorant sens to CSGO. The only difference is instead of division, multiply your Valorant sensitivity by 3.18 for an ideal valorant sens. While it’ll never be the same match these two methods can still help you get pretty close results.

How To Check Sensitivity on CSGO and Valorant

Now that you understand how sensitivity conversion works but might not know your exact CSGO or Valorant sensitivity, we’ve got you covered.

1. Checking CSGO Sensitivity

When checking your CSGO sensitivity, the process is straightforward and all you need to do is navigate through a few tabs. Here’s how to check your CSGO sensitivity:

  1. Launch CS2 and click on the Gear icon at the top left corner or press the ESC key to open up the Settings menu.
    Head over to Settings
  2. From here, head over to the Keyboard/Mouse tab. Once you are in, you should be able to find your sensitivity next to the “Mouse Sensitivity” tab.

2. Checking Valorant Sensitivity

Similar to CSGO, checking your Valorant sensitivity is also pretty simple. Here’s how to check your CSGO sensitivity:

  1. Open Valorant and click on the Gear icon at the top right corner or simply press the ESC key to open up the Settings menu.
    Head over to Settings
  2. From the General tab, find the Mouse section. Here, you will be able to see your sensitivity right next to the “Sensitivity: Aim” tab.
    Check your sensitivity

How To Change Sensitivity on CSGO and Valorant

Once you have your sensitivity and have converted it, the last step is to change your current sensitivity with the new one. Here’s how you can change your sensitivity on CSGO and Valorant:

1. Changing CSGO Sensitivity

CSGO offers you two different methods to change your sensitivity. You can either change it via the Settings menu or use the in-game console. Let’s have a closer look at the two.

↪ In-Game Settings

This is the most common way to change your settings. Simply, head to the Settings menu, navigate to the right tab, and make the changes. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Launch CS2 and head to the Settings menu.
    Head over to Settings
  2. Next, head to the Keyboard/Mouse tab and your sensitivity should be there. To change it, simply click on the current value and enter your new sensitivity, or move the slider.
    Enter your new sensitivity

↪ In-Game Console

The console or developer console is a command line interface within the game that allows you to enter various commands for advanced configuration of the game. In the console, players can execute commands related to game settings, graphics, controls, and more.

What makes this method better than normally changing your sensitivity is that the console can be accessed while you are in a match. This allows you to adjust settings like your sensitivity mid-game without navigating through multiple tabs and sliders. Simply open the console and type sensitivity followed by the desired value. For example, to set your sensitivity to 4, type:

sensitivity 4
Type the correct command
If the console isn’t opening after pressing the ~ key, it might be disabled in the settings. To enable it, go to the Game tab in the settings menu and select “Yes” next to the “Enable Developer Console” option.

Enable Developer Console

2. Changing Valorant Sensitivity

In Valorant, sensitivity can only be adjusted through the Settings menu, and there is no feature similar to CSGO’s Developer Console that allows you to quickly change it mid-game. Here’s how that’s done:

  1. Launch Valorant and head to the Settings menu
    Head over to Settings
  2. Your sensitivity should be displayed next to “Sensitivity: Aim“. To change it, simply click on the current value and enter your new sensitivity, or adjust the slider until you get there.
    Click on the current value

Find Your Perfect Sensitivity

Once you have added your converted sensitivity from CSGO to Valorant or vice versa, we recommend trying it out in casual matches before jumping into competitive queues. If it doesn’t feel perfect, experiment around by adjusting your sensitivity up or down. Finding your perfect sensitivity requires a lot of trial and error, so don’t hesitate to make changes until you find what works best for you.

Steam Cloud Out of Date can be a frustrating error for gamers and often prevents your game data from syncing properly. The error usually happens due to internet problems or conflicts with your local game files. But there’s nothing to worry about! In this article, we’ll provide you with 8 different methods to solve the Steam Cloud Out of Date error, so you can get back to gaming quickly.

Fix Steam Cloud Out of Date!

What Causes the Steam Cloud Out of Date Error?

The “Steam Cloud Out of Date” error occurs when Steam is unable to synchronize your game data with its cloud servers. You might also come across the error message in a few different variations, such as:

  • Unable to Sync
  • Steam was unable to Sync your files for (game) with the Steam Cloud
  • Steam Cloud Error

In most cases, the error is caused by conflicts with local game files. This often happens if you have Steam signed in on two different devices — one with Cloud Synchronization turned on and the other with it turned off. As a result, the local saved data doesn’t match the data saved in the Steam Cloud.

For instance, if you play Stardew Valley on your PC with Cloud Synchronization disabled, your progress is saved locally. Later, if you switch to another computer where the Steam Cloud saved data is from an earlier session, Steam detects the mismatch. This triggers a warning that you might lose data if you launch the game with the outdated save.

Since the Steam Cloud error helps prevent the loss of your game data, we suggest not launching any game until the error is fixed. Ignoring it can result in loss of progress, as the game might revert to older save files.

How to Fix Steam Cloud Out of Date

While the most common cause is conflicts with local game files, it’s not the only one. Apart from that, issues with Steam servers, poor or unstable internet connection, and corrupted files are also some reasons to look out for. With that said, let’s look at all the possible fixes that can help you solve Steam Cloud out of date.

1. Check Steam Servers

There’s no point in spending your time trying to solve a problem that has nothing to do with you. Hence, the first thing you should check is whether Steam is experiencing any server-related issues or not. Whether the Steam servers are down due to maintenance reasons or outage issues, cloud sync won’t work properly and can cause this error.

Steam Server Status

To check the Steam servers, you can head to either Downdetector or SteamDB to see if there are any problems reported. Additionally, keep an eye on the official Steam X account for any tweets and updates regarding the issue. If the error turns out to be a Steam server problem, simply wait for them to fix it and try again once they announce that the problem is fixed.

2. Make Sure You Have a Good Internet Connection

Most of the times, a slow or unstable internet connection prevent Steam Cloud from synchronizing data properly. Therefore, before moving on we suggest ruling out any internet-related issues. To check how good is your internet connection, you can try out a simple Internet speed test. You can visit websites like Fast.com or Ookla to get an idea of your upload, download, and overall Internet speed.

Wireless connection speed

Download speed of at least 5 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps are recommended for smooth syncing of game data. However, speed isn’t the only factor; frequent connection drops and high latency can also affect the syncing process. Once you have ensured your connection is good to go, you can move on to the next steps.

3. Close Steam on Other Devices

As discussed above, the error usually pops up when you use a single Steam account on multiple devices with different cloud sync settings. To avoid that, make sure that you are signed out of your Steam account and that the Steam client is closed on all other devices except the one where you are facing the error. If that does solve it for you, that means that your cloud sync settings are in fact out of sync.

4. Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization

Steam Cloud Synchronization ensures that your progress is consistently saved to the cloud, enabling seamless synchronization across multiple devices. This guarantees that your progress remains consistent regardless of the device you are using. If the setting is disabled on a device, it can cause Steam to prompt the Steam Cloud Out of Date error.

To enable Steam Cloud Synchronization, follow these steps:

  1. Open up the Steam client and click on Steam in the top left corner.
    Click on Steam
  2. This will open up a small menu where you’ll need to click on the Settings option.
    Select Settings
  3. Once Steam Settings opens up, navigate to the Cloud tab in the left sidebar.
    Head over to Storage
  4. Finally, toggle on the button next to “Enable Steam Cloud“. Restart your Steam and see if the error message still shows up.
    Toggle on the button

5. Retry Syncing for Individual Games

The next step is to determine if the issue is specific to one game. To check this, simply launch a different game than the one you’re experiencing the error in. If other games work fine, chances are that you’re encountering syncing issues with that specific game only.

Here’s how to retry syncing for individual games:

  1. Open up Steam, head to the Library Tab, and select the game you are facing the error with.
Head over to the Library tab
  2. Right next to the Play button, you should see a Cloud Status option along with the current status of your game’s data. Here, click on the Out of sync option.
    Click on Out of sync
  3. This should open a prompt stating that Steam was unable to sync your game’s data. Simply click on the “Retry Sync” button.
    Click on Retry Sync
  4. Lastly, wait for the process to complete and the Cloud Status should updated to Up to date now.
    Check the Cloud Status again

6. Verify the Integrity of Game Files

If you try playing the game again and the error is still showing up, the next thing you can do is verify the integrity of game files. Due to interrupted downloads, software conflicts, or malware attacks, your game files can get corrupted. This can lead to different issues, including the Steam cloud out of date error.

However, thanks to Steam’s built-in option, you can quickly verify file integrity by comparing the files on your system to those on their servers. If it detects missing or corrupted files, it automatically installs or replaces them with updated versions.

Here’s a quick rundown on how to verify the integrity of game files:

  1. Open up Steam and head to the Library tab.
    Head to the Library tab
  2. Here, select the game that’s giving you the error. Right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
    Select Properties
  3. Next, navigate to the Installed Files tab in the left sidebar.
Navigate your way to Installed files
  4. Click on the “Verify integrity of game files” to begin the process. Once it finishes you will see a successful validation which ensures that the game files are good to go.
Click on Verify integrity of game files

7. Repair the Steam Libary Folder

If you encounter any issues during the verification process of the game files, the library folder where Steam stores all downloaded game data is likely corrupted. This can cause Steam to encounter difficulties when syncing your game data, ultimately resulting in the Steam Cloud Sync Out of Date error. To make sure your Library folder is functioning properly, you can repair it by following these steps:

  1. Open up the Steam client and click on Steam in the top left corner.
    Head to Steam
  2. From the drop-down menu, select the Settings option.
    Select Settings
  3. Next, head to the Storage tab on the left side.
    Head to the Storage option
  4. Here, click on the three dots next to the storage bar and select Repair Libary.
    Select Repair Library
  5. Once the repair process is complete, simply click on the Close button and that’s it. Restart and relaunch your Steam and the error message should be fixed now.

8. Adjust Windows Firewall Settings

Windows Firewall is a built-in security feature in Microsoft Windows operating systems that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic. It acts as a barrier between your computer and potentially harmful or unauthorized connections from the internet or local network.

However, the Windows Firewall can also sometimes perceive Steam’s connection as unauthorized and block its attempt to connect to the cloud, resulting in the Steam Cloud Error. The fix here is to add an exception for Steam, preventing the Firewall from blocking any connections. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Open up the Windows Search bar and type in Control Panel
    Type Control panel
  2. Here, search for Windows Defender Firewall and click on the first result.
    Search Windows Defender
  3. Next, click on “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall“.
  4. From here, click on the Change Settings button to get all the options.
    Select Change settings
  5. Select the “Allow another app” option.
    Click on Allow another app
  6. This should open up a popup window. Here, click on the Browse button to open your File Explorer.
    Click on Browse
  7. Now, navigate to where your Steam launcher is installed, select it, and click on the Open button.
    Select your Steam launcher
  8. Once that’s done, click on the Add button.
    Now Add Steam
  9. Finally, hit the OK button at the bottom to finish the process.
    Hit the OK button

Once that’s done try restarting your computer and going back on YouTube to see if the issue pops up again.

3. Clean Browser Cache and Cookies

As most users use YouTube on a dedicated browser, it could be that the browser is what’s causing this issue. To get rid of that doubt, we suggest clearing the browser cache and cookies as this could potentially remove corrupted or outdated data. Although cache and cookies make your browsing experience a lot snappier, they are quite common culprits in a lot of computer problems.

For this guide, we will be using Google Chrome to show you how to clean your browser cache and cookies. Few things are more frustrating than a mouse that keeps freezing, especially when you are in the middle of work, gaming, or any other activity. An unresponsive mouse can be a major issue as without one it’s quite difficult to navigate around your computer or laptop.

To help you with that, this article will explore a few common reasons behind your mouse freezing and provide you with practical troubleshooting tips. So, without further ado, let’s try and stop your mouse from freezing.

Fix your mouse with ease

Why Does My Mouse Keep Freezing?

When it comes to solving issues like a freezing cursor, it’s important not to overlook even the most unlikely causes. Hardware problems like faulty or loose cables, battery issues, or wireless connectivity problems often cause such issues. Similarly, a few common software causes include outdated drivers, malware infections, or Windows update problems.

With that said, we have gathered up a range of solutions that can help you deal with the problem from every angle, so that you can fix it for good.

1. Enable Touchpad — For Laptop Users Only

Before we dive into the general methods to fix a freezing mouse, our first step is only for laptop users to try as it involves checking their touchpad’s settings. If you normally use the built-in touchpad to navigate around but it randomly starts freezing or stops working, chances are you might have disabled it by accident.

Make sure the touchpad is enabled

Generally, the key combinations to disable/enable the touchpad are; Fn + F8 (F5, F7, or F9) and it’s pretty common to accidentally hit one of those. If the keyboard shortcuts aren’t working, you can also manually enable the touchpad by heading to the Touchpad Settings from the Windows search menu. Here, all you need to do is enable the toggle button and your touchpad should start working back again.

2. Restart Your PC

With the touchpad-specific solution addressed, it’s time to explore the troubleshooting steps for fixing freezing issues with an external mouse. First and foremost, give your computer a quick restart. While restarting might not seem related to a mouse issue, it can often resolve such problems. Therefore, restarting is a highly recommended first step when troubleshooting any issues.

Restart your pc

3. Check Cable Connections

The second most basic step that you should check off your list is making sure that your USB cable or USB dongle is properly seated into the USB port on your computer. Try unplugging the cable or the dongle and plugging them back again to ensure a secure and firm connection. Be sure to do this gently and avoid forcing them into the port, as that could cause additional problems.

Wired vs. Wireless

Another thing that you can do in case the cable connections aren’t loose is to try a different USB port. This ensures that the port you are using isn’t broken or acting up as that could cause connection issues.

4. Look For Physical Damage

While you are diagnosing the connections, see if you come across any wear and tear on your mouse cable. If you see any damage, especially near the ends of the mouse, it can be a big reason behind your mouse freezing. If that’s the case, consider replacing your current mouse as that would solve the problem right away.

5. Check Wireless Mouse Battery

If you own a Bluetooth mouse and are experiencing cursor freezes, low battery levels might be the cause. A wireless mouse with a low battery level can malfunction and cause such issues, so ensure that your mouse isn’t low on charge. Similarly, if your mouse uses batteries, try replacing them with fresh ones, as they can deplete over time to see if that solves the issue.

Red lights often indicate low battery levels!

6. Make Sure Your Mouse is Within Range

Another thing wireless mouse users should ensure is that their mouse is at an optimal distance from their computer. Wireless mice rely on Bluetooth signals so it’s best to keep them as close to the source as possible to avoid any performance issues. So, try moving a little closer to your computer, or in some cases, ensure that no physical obstructions or electronic signals are interfering with the Bluetooth signals.

7. Clean the Mouse and the Mouse Pad

Keeping your peripherals clean is the best way to ensure that they stick around long. When it comes to cleaning a mouse, the most important part is the sensor as that’s what guides the cursor around. Get yourself compressed air and a clean cotton swab to gently clean the bottom surface of your mouse for any dirt and debris.

Clean your Mouse and Mousepad | RichMe

While you are at it, consider properly cleaning your mousepad by throwing it into the washing machine. A dirty mousepad can accumulate dust around your mouse skates and sensor, which can ultimately lead to issues like a freezing cursor and more.

8. Incompatible Mouse Drivers

Since drivers are what allow your devices to communicate properly, any small issues surrounding them can cause problems with how your mouse operates. Although Windows automatically takes care of driver updates, sometimes it may not install the most optimal drivers or find suitable updates. However, the good news is that you can manually handle driver-related problems.

READ MORE: External USB Mouse Doesn’t Work on Laptop? Here Are 4 Fixes! ➜

↪ Update Mouse Drivers

The first thing to do is check for any pending driver updates that can be installed as outdated drivers are one of the most common causes behind freezing issues. Here’s how to update mouse drivers:

  1. Open up Device Manager through the Windows Search bar or by pressing the “Windows button + X” and selecting Device Manager.
    Search for Device Manager
  2. From here, double-click on “Mice and other pointing devices” to open up a drop-down list of all your mouse drivers.
    Mice and other pointing devices
  3. Simply, select “HID-complaint mouse” and right-click on it. Click on Update driver from the menu.
    Update your driver
  4. This will open up another menu. Here select the “Search automatically for drivers” option. If there are any updates available, simply follow the on-screen instructions to install them.
    Select the first option

↪ Reinstall Mouse Drivers

Uninstalling drivers can sometimes prompt Windows to automatically reinstall them, potentially getting newer versions from online sources during the process. For this, all you need to do is follow the same steps as above but this time select “Uninstall device” once you right-click on your mouse driver. Next, restart your computer and Windows should reinstall the uninstalled drivers back again.

Select Uninstall Device

↪ Roll Back Mouse Drivers

To troubleshoot mouse issues, you can also roll back your drivers to a previous version to test if the problem persists. If your mouse recently started freezing despite no prior issues, an update might be the culprit. In such cases, reverting to a previous driver version that was stable for you could help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue. Here’s how to roll back mouse drivers:

  1. Open up the Device Manager and right-click on your mouse drivers. From the menu, click on Properties
    Select Properties
  2. Next, head to the Driver tab and select the “Roll Back Driver” option. Hit the OK button and your mouse drivers should go down to a previous version.
Head to the driver tab and uncheck the box

One thing to remember here is that the roll back driver option will only be available if you have previously updated the driver. This means that if Windows indicates during the update process that your drivers are already up-to-date, the rollback option will be greyed out for you.

9. Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

The Hardware and Device Troubleshooter, exclusive to Windows 10, is a utility designed to identify and address potential issues with the hardware components installed on your computer. With this method, if there is an issue with your mouse, the troubleshooter should be able to point it out and help you fix it. To run the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter, follow these steps:

  1. Start by pressing “Win + R” to open up a small dialogue box.
The dialogue box should look like this
  2. Here, type in “msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic” and hit Enter
    Type the command
  3. This will open up the Hardware and Device Troubleshooter. Simply click on the Next button to see if there are any issues with your installed hardware or your mouse.
    Click on next

10. Scan For Virus and Malware

While it’s not common for small malware and viruses to directly affect hardware issues, it’s best to run a quick scan just to make sure everything is good to go. To run a virus and malware scan, follow these steps:

  1. Open up the Windows Search bar and type in Windows Security
    Head to Windows Security
  2. Once that opens up, select the “Virus and Threat Protection” option.
    Select Virus and threat protection
  3. Next, click on the Quick Scan button under “Current Threats“.
    Perform a Quick scan
  4. As and when you press it, Windows will start checking your files for any malware or virus. If it comes across something that needs action make sure to remove it.

11. Turn off Power Saving For USB Ports

Power-saving settings are typically linked with laptops to extend battery life, but they’re also beneficial for computers as they help in energy reduction, heat management, and increase component lifespan. However, power-saving settings can cause USB ports to turn off when not in use to save power. To fix that, you can disable power saving settings for USB ports by following these steps:

  1. Open up Device Manager and look for the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” option usually located at the bottom.
    Universal Serial bus controllers
  2. Double-click on it to reveal a list of all USB hub devices. From here right click on “USB Root Hub” and select Properties.
    Select Properties
  3. Once you are in the properties menu, navigate to the “Power Management” tab. Here, uncheck the box next to “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and hit OK to finalize.
    Uncheck this box

12. Disable Enhance Pointer Precision

Enhance Pointer Precision adjusts your mouse sensitivity based on the speed of your mouse movements. As strange as this might sound, disabling enhance pointer precision can be a good solution to fix a freezing mouse. Here’s a quick rundown to disabling Enhance Pointer Precision:

  1. Search for the Control Panel in the Windows Search bar.
    Search Control panel
  2. Once that opens up, head to the search option and just type in “Mouse“.
Type mouse in the search bar
  3. From here, click on Mouse settings to open up a menu box.
    Select Mouse settings
  4. Next, head to the “Pointer Options” tab and uncheck the box next to “Enhance pointer precision“. Lastly, press the OK button and you are good to go.
    Power options > Uncheck box
Even if it isn’t behind the freezing issues, we recommend turning enhance pointer precision off anyway, especially for FPS gamers as it can randomly change your sensitivity causing you to miss your shots.

13. Disable Inactive Windows Scrolling

Inactive Windows Scrolling is a feature that allows you to scroll on an inactive window as long as your mouse pointer hovers over it. However, inactive windows scrolling can be a potential cause behind your mouse freezing. Hence, to disable inactive windows scrolling all you need to do is, open up Windows Mouse settings and toggle off the button under “Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them“.

Toggle off this button

14. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup is a built-in feature that’s designed to help your PC boot quicker. While the option can help you save time, it can sometimes prevent Windows not to boot up properly, causing hardware and compatibility issues.

As Fast Startup is a combination of cold shutdown and hibernation, it can cause devices that don’t support sleep or hibernation mode to take a while to wake up and start functioning normally. Here’s a quick rundown to disabling Fast Startup:

  1. Open up the Control Panel and search for Power Options.
    Search for Power Options
  2. Click on the first result to open up a detailed view.
    Open up power settings
  3. From here, select the “Choose what the power button does” button from the sidebar.
    Select the second option
  4. Next, click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable“. Scroll down and uncheck the Turn on fast startup option. Finally, hit the Save Changes button and that’s pretty much it.
    Uncheck the box

15. Check For Windows Updates

Updating your Windows can be a good way to get rid of any underlying bugs and issues. Additionally, sometimes, older versions of Windows might not work well with your mouse drivers, leading to freezing issues with the mouse.

Update your windows

To update your Windows; Go to Settings, then click on Windows Update and select Check for Updates. If any updates are available, choose Download & Install to update your computer.

Solve All Your Mouse Problems

On April 27th, 2015, a 19-year-old Brazilian developer announced Agar.io on 4chan. Within weeks Agar.io became one of the most top-played games on Miniclip and fell into the hands of popular Twitch streamers and even Youtubers like Pewdiepie. This marked the beginning of a new genre of browser-based multiplayer games.

In this article, we will take a closer look into what “.io” games are and a few reasons behind their popularity. We will also look at some of the best io games you can try in 2024 So, get your gaming gear ready, and let’s dive in!

Best io games in 2024

The Basics Behind .io Games

.io games are simple yet engaging online multiplayer games that can be played directly on your web browser. There are hundreds of .io games and each one offers a different type of gameplay experience. The “.io” part in these games comes from the .io domain, which is short for the British Indian Ocean Territory. This domain wasn’t used much initially, making it cheap for developers to use.

↪ What Makes .io Games Special?

  1. Easy to Access: You don’t need to download or install anything. Just open your web browser, go to the game website using their URL, and start playing.
  2. Simple Controls: Most .io games have very simple controls, usually just using your mouse and a few keys. This makes them easy to learn, even for beginners.
  3. Multiplayer Fun: You play with people from all over the world in real time. This makes the games exciting and unpredictable.
  4. Short Sessions: Games are usually quick, so you can play a few rounds in a short amount of time. Perfect for a quick break.

After Agar.io became a major hit, developers started making similar games using the same domain structure. But what made these games so popular? The accessibility of these games is what keeps them still going; all you need is a browser to enjoy growing your snake or shooting other tanks. Even with simple mechanics, it’s hard not to hit the “Try Again” button because of their addictive nature.

As a web surfer, people think they are invincible online. However, the Internet isn’t as secure and faceless as people think. Your personal information and the data you put online is always at the risk of being compromised. If you have ever used messaging apps like Discord, you might have seen warnings about harmful links in messages. That’s the kind of risk we are talking about — IP grabbers.

Even if you aren’t aware of the term “IP grabbers”, it’s pretty easy to guess the damage they could cause. IP grabbers can be included in links and messages that reveal your location, identity, and other personal information upon clicking. That is why in this article, we will look into what IP grabbers are and how you can protect yourself against them.

What Exactly is an IP Address?

The numbers represent an IP Address

Internet Protocol address short for IP address is a unique string of characters that is used to identify devices on a network. Much like how the address on an envelope directs mail to the right house, IP addresses allow the internet to differentiate between devices so that websites know who exactly is requesting the data and where to send it back.

For instance, when you request to visit Facebook.com, the internet notes down your IP address so that it can send Facebook.com’s information to your specific device. Each device has a public IP address and that number is unique to the whole internet. This makes your public IP address a very powerful tool for companies to gather information about you.

Protect your IP

What is an IP Grabber?

As it’s in the name, an IP grabber is a tool that is used to “grab” or acquire someone’s IP. IP grabbers usually work when someone clicks on a link or is redirected to a specific page, as that’s when these tools record your IP address and store it. While IP grabbers don’t do much more than store your IP address, they can be potentially used as a starting point for something you might not be prepared for.

IP grabbers aren’t only used by cybercriminals. Such software is legal to use and social media websites and gaming services often use them to target advertisements or authenticate login requests.

READ MORE: How to Find Your IP Address on Windows & Mac ➜

How IP Grabbers Can Be Used in the Wrong Ways

Just as how an online shop or a website can get your IP, someone on the internet can also use your IP to cause potential risks. Let’s take a closer look at how IP grabbers can be used in the wrong ways.

1. Targeting and Tracking Your Location

Keep your location safe!

If someone takes hold of your IP address, they can use it to get your approximate geographical location. While this location might only narrow down to a country in some cases, when combined with other information, it could reveal your exact neighborhood. This vulnerability opens the door to malicious activities such as blackmailing users or planning fake SWAT attacks.

2. Denying Access to Websites

Can’t access websites anymore?

When you try to open up a website and get a pop-up notification saying “Access denied” it likely means your IP address isn’t eligible to access that specific site. This often occurs if someone has used your IP address to violate the website’s terms of use, leading to your access being restricted. Alternatively, a scammer might block your access to prevent you from interfering with their illegal activities.

3. DDoS Attacks

DDoS attacks explained | onelogin

Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal functioning of a server, service, or network by overwhelming it with traffic. This can cause slowed performance or even a complete breakdown of someone’s internet connection. Hackers can use your IP address to carry out DDoS attacks causing significant damage, especially to websites with a large number of users.

How To Know if Your IP Has Been Grabbed?

Beware of IP Grabbers

Above are the three most common signs to know in case someone grabs your IP over the internet. If you are unable to access websites that you either regularly use or your Internet slows down, chances are your IP is in the wrong hands. Additionally, the biggest sign to look for is a DDoS attack that can pretty much break down your entire Internet connection.

If your IP has been grabbed, it’s important to take action immediately before the hacker goes even further. A few steps you can take are;

  • Disconnecting from the Internet: Immediately disconnect from the Internet to stop the IP grabber from collecting any additional information about your device or network.
  • Run a malware scan: Make sure to either run Windows Security Defender or other third-party apps to check for any malware or viruses that the IP grabber might have installed on your device.
  • Change your passwords: If you have entered any login credentials or personal information on the website redirected by the IP grabber, immediately change your passwords for all your accounts.
  • Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP): Remember to get in touch with your ISP to report the incident. Thoroughly let them know how the attack happened in the first place so that they can help you identify and remove any underlying risks.

Protect Yourself Against IP Grabbers

Now that you understand what IP grabbing is and how it can be used to potentially acquire your personal information, it’s time to look at a few ways that can help you protect against IP grabbers.

Don’t open unknown links

Since IP grabbers use unknown links to store your IP in the first place, the best thing to do is avoid clicking on links sent by users that you don’t know. Some messaging apps like Discord warn you before opening up such malicious links so be sure to keep an out for that as well.

2. Use a VPN

Connect to a VPN

Possibly the best way to protect yourself online is by using a VPN service that works by masking your IP address by routing your connection through servers in different countries. Using a VPN makes it harder for hackers to trace your original IP and keeps your data protected.

3. Keep Your Firewall Updated

To protect yourself against IP grabbers, it’s crucial to keep your firewall updated. A firewall acts as a barrier between your computer and potential internet threats, and regular updates ensure it can recognize and block the latest dangers. By keeping your firewall updated, you ensure it is always ready to protect you from online threats.

Staying Secure Online

While an IP address alone can not reveal data such as exact location, identity, or what device you are on, it can be a step towards exploiting your information. With that said, we hope this article has covered everything you should know about IP grabbers and how you can ensure a secure and safe online surfing experience.

FAQs

What’s the difference between IP grabbing and cookie tracking?

IP grabbing involves getting a user’s IP address and giving away basic details like location and internet service provider. Third-party cookies, on the other hand, store data in a user’s browser, enabling cross-site tracking for personalized ads and content. While both have privacy concerns, third-party cookies are more controversial due to their detailed profiling capabilities without explicit consent.

What role does DNS play in managing IP addresses?

DNS (Domain Name System) serves as the internet’s address book, translating human-readable domain names (like example.com) into machine-readable IP addresses (such as 192.0.2.1). This translation enables users to access websites and services by typing in familiar domain names rather than needing to remember complex numerical IP addresses.

What are SWAT attacks?

”SWAT” attacks, also known as “SWATing,” involve falsely reporting a serious incident, such as a violent crime or hostage situation, at a victim’s location to prompt an armed police response, often by SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams. These malicious reports are typically made with the intention of harassing, intimidating, or endangering the victim.

Suspect OR Suspicious

The Meaning and Origin Behind Sus

Sus is short for “suspect” or “suspicious” and depending on the context can mean either one of the two both at once. The word is used to define something or someone that doesn’t feel right or in others feels a bit off. Whether you want to directly refer to someone who seems untrustworthy or describe a scenario that feels skeptical, sus can be used as both a noun and an adjective.

While sus has recently dominated social media, its has been surfacing long before the Internet. Back in 1842, “Sus law” was a nickname for a stop-and-search law that gave British law enforcement the authority to stop and search individuals that they found suspicious. In the 1930s, sus made its way into cop slang and was used as “suss out” to describe the discovery of crucial evidence or information.

The dark side behind the Sus law

However, the form of sus we know today was first used in August 2003 on the online slang repository Urban Dictionary by a user named Diego who gave us possibly the first look into what the term means.

From an unknown party game to surpassing 3 million players, Among Us was one of the most successful video games of 2020. Just like Werewolf and Mafia, Among Us follows a similar concept where the game randomly assigns players the role of either a Crewmate or the Imposter. The job of the crewmates is to complete a set of tasks while figuring out who between them is trying to murder us all.

But how did a party-game make the term sus so popular? Well, a big reason for the game’s success was the many Twitch streamers who would broadcast themselves running around the spaceship for hours. And they brought the word “sus” along the ride. Sus became the central catchphrase of the game and soon players started to call other crewmates sus if they seemed like imposters.

The term started to make its way to memes and shortly after that was pretty much all over the Internet. People started using the term outside of Among Us and it became a common part of the “Internet speak“. Fast forward to today where kids also use sus to point out something that feels uncomfortable, dodgy, or as they say “cringe“.
